Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Ted James, Joins Advisory Board

Perimeter Medical Imaging Inc., a developer of real time imaging systems for in surgery tumor margin assessment, today announced the addition of Dr. Ted James of University of Vermont to Perimeter’s Clinical Advisory Board.

Dr. James is the Medical Director, Skin & Soft Tissue Surgical Oncology and a Surgical Oncologist, at Fletcher Allen Healthcare and Medical Director, Clinical Simulation and Associate Professor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.  He is a specialist in Oncoplastic and Minimally Invasive Breast Surgery.  Dr. James is a recognized leader in breast conservation surgery and co-authored one of the key studies on reexcision rates: “Variability in Reexcision Following Breast Conservation Surgery” Laurence E. McCahill, MD; Richard M. Single, PhD; Erin J. Aiello Bowles, MPH; Heather S. Feigelson, PhD, MPH; Ted A. James, MD; Tom Barney, BS; Jessica M. Engel, MSN; Adedayo A. Onitilo, MD, MSCR, JAMA. 2012;307(5):467-475. doi:10.1001/jama.2012.43.

“Today there are no clinically effective tools that have been able to address the large variations in reexcision rates from surgeon to surgeon or hospital to hospital.  As such, in-surgery margin assessment continues to be a challenging clinical problem for surgeons.  Perimeter’s approach is very compelling.  By providing surgeons with real time imaging of the removed tissue, there is the potential to make a very positive impact on the quality of patient care“, said Dr. James.

“Dr. James is a recognized leader in minimally invasive breast surgery.” said Paul Weber, Perimeter’s President and CEO. “It is critical that we engage with thought leaders like Dr. James to assure that our products are as clinically impactful as possible.  Dr. James is passionate about solving the problem of missed tumor margins that is so traumatic for to many patients and I am extremely pleased to have a leader of his calibre joining our team.”
