Dr. Brian Wilson Joins Perimeter Medical Imaging Scientific Advisory Board As Chief Scientific Advisor
Perimeter Medical Imaging Inc., a developer of real time imaging systems for in surgery tumor margin assessment, today announced the addition Dr. Brian Wilson of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has joined Perimeter’s Clinical Advisory Board.
Dr. Wilson has joined Perimeter as both a member of the Clinical Advisory board and as Chief Scientific Advisor. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering research into various optic tools that can be used for minimally-invasive cancer treatment and early diagnosis. In 1981, with Canadian Cancer Society support, he started a program in translational research and collaborative clinical trials of photodynamic therapy (the use of light-activated drugs). He has driven the development of fluorescence and other endoscopic imaging techniques and more recently has developed optical imaging to guide surgery. In the last few years, his research has expanded to include development of nanotechnologies in cancer treatment, diagnosis and research. He is currently head of the division of biophysics and bio-imaging at the Ontario Cancer Institute and professor of medical biophysics in the faculty of medicine at University of Toronto.
On joining Perimeter’s Board, Dr. Wilson commented, “I have been working with the team for the past 2 years and am very pleased to be expanding my role with Perimeter. The problem of real time margin assessment is very challenging and Optical Coherence Tomography imaging is uniquely positioned to provide high resolution images of surgical margins within a clinically relevant timeframe and in a form factor that can be located in the surgical suite. I believe that these key factors will be drivers of successful market adoption!”
“Over the past 2 years Dr. Wilson has made a significant impact on the development of Perimeter’s real-time lumpectomy imaging solutions,” said Paul Weber, Perimeter’s President and CEO. “His deep understanding of medical imaging and oncology are invaluable and I am very happy that he has agreed to expand his role with Perimeter.”
About Perimeter Medical Imaging Inc.
Perimeter Medical develops, patents, and commercializes advanced surgical imaging tools that allow surgeons, radiologists and pathologists to better assess microscopic tissue structures during the surgical procedure. Perimeter’s OTISTM is the only solution that provides clinicians with an ultra high resolution image of the entire surface of the removed tissue specimen, providing accurate information in real time, enabling better decisions and ultimately reducing the need for follow-on 2nd surgeries. Perimeter is a privately owned Canadian company. For more information, visit www.perimetermed.com.
